Toddler Painting Essentials

Today we got stuck into some messy play by doing some finger painting. I helped our toddler to make a birthday card for her daddy by making paint handprints of her and Baby C and then sticking them onto some card, along with some letters I cut out for her. She then amused herself for a while doing some painting on card. She loves doing crafty things and I am building up quite a good stash of supplies so I thought I’d share with you what we used today. After seeing some lovely mummy bloggers churn out impressive vlogs I Continue reading…

Meal Planning Monday – 20/05/2013

After looking through some old photos this week I have decided I need to try and get a bit of my pregnancy weight off! I also think a lot of our meals are too carb heavy and we don’t have enough veggies, so I am trying to include lots more vegetable side dishes rather than just potatoes or rice with everything. I have been enjoying reading how Mama Owl has been following a paleo diet and changing the way her family eats. I thought this way of eating would be really restrictive but her meal plans and ideas look so Continue reading…

Cauliflower and Garlic Mash Recipe

This recipe is a brilliant alternative to mashed potatoes if you want to cut down on carbs, are eating the paleo way (you might want to substitute the butter if so), or just fancy a change. I was blown away by this dish and actually preferred it to normal mash – I am a potato girl so that really says something! It was creamy and flavoursome without being stodgy like normal mash. I was so skeptical about my family liking this that I made something separate for my veggie-averse toddler as a back up, but to my surprise she wolfed it down. Continue reading…

Mama Style: Monochrome Momma

I love all the funky monochrome pieces on offer at the moment, I don’t think you can beat black and white for a classic and easy look. I love this loose stripey top with scarf from Next, and it would be great if you are breastfeeding like me with a little vest underneath for feeding. The black jeans look shiny and like leather in the photo but they are not, they are just plain black skinny jeans which are a great wardrobe staple for me. I would wear them with the super cute black with white trim ballet pumps below Continue reading…

A Poem About My ‘Mummy Body’

In the bath last night, I couldn’t help but think how much my body has changed since having my two little girls. Even though I have times where I feel insecure about my body (particularly my mummy tummy!), I am truly amazed and so proud that it has housed and given birth to my two little ones. While I was thinking about it, I drafted out a poem. Its my first attempt at anything like this – so let me know what you think! L x I won’t mourn for you, my former self, The woman of the past, The Continue reading…

Spaghetti With Courgettes, Garlic And Chilli Topped With Fried Spinach Balls

The last night out hubby and I had on our own together we went to Carluccio’s for dinner and had this dish. It was so unusual and gorgeous I set out to make it at home as we don’t get chance to go out to Carluccio’s much now we have two little ones! I modified the recipe a bit due to what I had in, and the fact that I am not a fan of rigatoni and thought it would work better with spaghetti. Recipe serves 2. Print Spaghetti With Courgettes, Garlic And Chilli Topped With Fried Spinach Balls Yield: Continue reading…

A Weekend Away And My Plans For More Quality Time

Yesterday afternoon we arrived home from a lovely weekend away on the North Yorkshire coast. We stayed at the same place I reviewed here, but in a cottage this time rather than an apartment. The weather wasn’t impressive, but we had a lovely time – walking on the beach with LB in her wellies, relaxing in our little cottage and eating fish and chips. Real quality time together. It was lovely to give all our attention to the girls for a few days. To read books and play games with LB without being distracted by cooking dinner or doing housework. Continue reading…

6 Breastfeeding Essentials For the First Few Weeks

Wondering what breastfeeding supplies you need? After breastfeeding my first daughter for 11 months, I was a bit more prepared this time for what to expect. Having these 6 items has made feeding so much easier and saved many tears due to being sore and always being soggy and wet (with my first baby I wasn’t at all prepared that my boobs would leak everywhere, all the time!). Last time I forgot to buy several essentials (like bras!) so had to go out to get them when LB was only a day or so old which really wasn’t what I Continue reading…

Easy Eton Mess Recipe

This has to be the most simple dessert to make ever. It has 3 ingredients, and takes less than 5 minutes to throw together. Simply served in a nice glass it looks fab too! Next time we have guests round for dinner I will definitely be making this. Ingredients: 500g strawberries (hulled) 400ml double cream 4 ready made meringue nests Method: 1. Chop up half of the strawberries – you can leave them fairly small or chunkier if you prefer. I left them quite large this time but will make them smaller when I make this again as Continue reading…
